Dil Bechara is a Hindi adaptation of the bestselling novel the Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It is directed by Mukesh Chhabra and was released on Disney-Hotstar. The movie, being the last movie to be shot with late Sushant Singh Rajput, is deeply emotionally felt. This fact of Sushant Singh Rajput playing in this last movie already provides an added layer to it, and it indeed was something that both fans and first-time viewers looked for in both eagerness and pain.
“Love, Resilience, Loss, and Life’s Beauty”
The plot introduces us to Kizie Basu (Sanjana Sanghi), a collage student living with thyroid carver. Despite her condition, Kizie is a pragmatic and subdued young women whose life revolves around her parents and regular hospital visits. Enter Immanuel Rajkumar junior, or Manny (Sushant Singh Rajput), a boy full of life and infectious energy. Manny is a cancer survivor with a prosthetic leg, yet he refuses to let his past struggles define him.
The two become closely bonded, and a tender love story begins to grow with palpable speed. Manny’s zest helps Kizie rediscover the beauty of living in the present. Both of them go on a journey to fulfill Kizie long-held wish of meeting her Favorite musician in Paris. As their love deepens, the story takes a bittersweet turn as Manny’s health deteriorates suddenly. What follows is a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the celebration of fleeting moments.
“Heartfelt Performances in Dil Bechara”
Sushant Singh Rajput, as Manny, is vibrant, full of soul, and extremely heartful. His personality is so infectious, deeply charming, and capable, effortlessly swinging between a quick-witted humor and touching vulnerability. It’s amazing how he makes this feel because this is his last one.
Sanjana Sanghi turns out to be a very matured and nuanced rendition as kizie, while managing to convey well the psychological battle that takes a very young girl and attempts at finding her logic behind the very vague emotion called love or even existence itself. While both together provide some sort of chemistry which goes all-natural, tenderly profound.
